Honest caveat: Taiwan Shin Sun (新光) / Rose Card ‘Korea Craze Cashback’ promotional cashback (10% on Korean purchases) is a recurring credit card seasonal promo. The 10% headline applies to specific merchant categories (typically retail in Korea, with caps), not unlimited Korean spending. By 2026, the 10% promo has been replaced by tiered rewards (5% standard, 10% on first NT$30,000 spend). Verify current promo terms before booking around the cashback math.
The Korea credit card cashback mistake I made: I’d planned a Korea trip specifically to maximize Shin Sun Rose Card 10% cashback, budgeting NT$80,000 in Korean retail spending for the projected NT$8,000 cashback. What I missed: the 10% rate capped at NT$30,000/month spend; my NT$80,000 actual spending earned only NT$3,000 cashback (NT$30,000 × 10%) plus NT$2,500 (NT$50,000 × 5%) = NT$5,500 total. The ‘expected’ NT$8,000 became NT$5,500 — saving still real but 31% below my projection. The fix: read the cashback caps before building trip budgets around projected rewards.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t optimize Korea trip around credit card cashback
1. Travelers with low Korean retail spending plans (≤NT$15,000). 10% cashback on NT$15,000 = NT$1,500. Setup overhead (apply for card, foreign transaction strategy) doesn’t pay for that small a return.
2. Travelers with existing premium credit cards offering travel rewards. Rose Card 10% Korea-specific cashback may be lower-value than your existing card’s general travel rewards (eg Citi PremierMiles 1.5% on all spending = better at NT$80,000+ spending).
3. Travelers prioritizing miles accumulation over cashback. Cashback cards don’t earn airline miles. If you’re building toward business class redemption, miles-earning cards are structurally better.
