The strategic insight (Thai Airways via BKK and Vietjet via SGN both offer Asian-routing alternatives to direct Taipei-Sapporo) is durable.
The Sapporo connecting routing mistake I made on a 2024 ski trip: I’d booked Vietjet TPE-SGN-Sapporo at NT$7,800, calculating saving vs direct EVA at NT$13,500. The route saved NT$5,700 cash. What I missed: SGN-Sapporo overnight layover required Saigon hotel (NT$2,200), and my checked ski equipment had to be re-claimed at SGN + re-checked, adding 2.5 hours and the risk of damage during transfer. Net actual saving: NT$5,700 – NT$2,200 hotel – NT$1,800 in lost time / risk-adjusted value = NT$1,700 — vs the NT$5,700 I’d anticipated. The fix: connecting routings for ski-equipment / golf-bag travel introduce real cost beyond the cash math; budget separate hotel + handling time.

Rational Travel recently got burned by this VietJet Air flight deal! Taipei to Sapporo, roundtrip including taxes for just 6,000 NTD, and you can even grab tickets in August and September during summer vacation—it’s absolutely insane! This ultra-low price is thanks to the Fifth Freedom of the Air (basically the special right to pick up passengers in Taipei and fly to Sapporo), making it a true ticket massacre! While it’s an A320 narrow-body aircraft and your legs might get a bit stiff after 5 hours, add a few hundred dollars to upgrade to a Hot Seat or emergency exit row and your comfort instantly shoots up! Tickets are so plentiful from July to September, with August and September being especially sweet—the base fares include 7kg of carry-on baggage, which is plenty to travel light.
Being Honest: 6,000 NTD to Sapporo, Incredible Value
To be honest, VietJet’s 6,000 NTD roundtrip tickets to Sapporo are absolutely crazy! You can even fly during summer vacation, and August and September have so many tickets it’s like they’re throwing money away. Seven kilos of carry-on luggage is enough for me to haul back all the Hokkaido snacks. The A320 is a bit narrow and gets cramped on long flights, but spend a little extra to pick a good seat and it becomes comfortable right away! Imagine eating steaming ramen on Sapporo’s streets, browsing Tanuki Koji night market, and watching the night view from Mount Maruyama in the evening—6,000 NTD for this experience is an absolute steal! My friend said last time the sea urchin bowl was so good she almost licked the bowl clean, I definitely have to try it this time! Not grabbing this ticket will make you regret it until dawn, what are you waiting for? Book now!
