The fix the framework here teaches: open-jaw routings work best when you’ve researched the destination depth requirements. Bangkok rewards 3 days; Chiang Mai rewards 5+. Adjust the ground time to match each city’s depth, not split evenly by routing.

1. Travelers based in Taipei or Kaohsiung. The Taichung departure adds 1.5-2 hours of HSR each way for Taipei-based travelers. The fare advantage is meaningful from Taichung specifically; from TPE / KHH it doesn’t beat direct EVA / Thai Airways.
2. Travelers wanting only Bangkok or only Chiang Mai. The three-city routing’s value is “two destinations for one fare.” For single-destination trips, direct routes win.
3. Time-constrained travelers (≤7 nights total trip). The open-jaw routing benefits from at least 8-10 nights to actually use both Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
