The ‘NT$X economy budget gets you business class to Europe’ framing requires you to already have 80,000-130,000 miles plus willingness to book 12 months ahead. Without prior miles balance, this strategy doesn’t apply.
The miles-to-business-class redemption mistake I made on a 2024 Europe trip: I’d accumulated 95K Star Alliance miles and tried to redeem business class TPE-LHR for a March 2024 trip in November 2023 (4 months ahead). Zero availability on EVA / ANA / United Star Alliance partners. By the time I’d given up and paid cash, NT$72,000 for business class. The fix: business-class award redemption requires 10-12 months ahead booking; my 4-month-ahead attempt was 6-8 months too late. Build miles AND book 10-12 months ahead — both halves needed.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t pursue miles-for-Europe-business strategy
1. Travelers with under 80K miles balance + no aggressive credit card sign-up plan. Below 80K miles, the economy-cash-equivalent route wins. Build to 100K+ before targeting business class redemption.
2. Travelers with locked travel dates within 6 months. Award availability concentrates 10-12 months ahead. Last-minute / mid-term booking attempts find scraps. Better fit: cash booking for fixed-date business needs.
3. Travelers without alliance loyalty preferences. Award redemption requires picking an alliance (Star vs Oneworld vs SkyTeam). Without prior loyalty, every booking restart from scratch — better fit: focus on cash fares + flexible routing.
