2026 Daegu (Taegu) Air Kaohsiung-Jeju flight reality: Direct Kaohsiung-Jeju (KHH-CJU) promotional fares at NT$5,000 round-trip including 15kg baggage are genuinely competitive — but the route’s operating frequency is limited (typically 2-3 times weekly, not daily), and connecting onward from Jeju Island requires domestic Korea ferry or internal flights rather than direct continuation to mainland Korea. Jeju Island as a destination is genuinely beautiful, but travelers planning Jeju + Seoul itineraries should factor the Jeju-Seoul domestic leg cost (approximately KRW 80,000-120,000 / NT$1,900-2,900 per person one-way) into the total trip budget.

📍 Booked KHH-CJU NT$5,000 promo planning Jeju+Seoul trip; Jeju-Seoul domestic leg added NT$5,800/person round-trip, total cost higher than direct KHH-ICN (Mar 2026) Found Kaohsiung-Jeju direct flight at NT$5,000 all-in (including 15kg bag). Planned: 3 nights Jeju → 4 nights Seoul. Booked Jeju-Seoul domestic flights after: cheapest available KRW 85,000 (NT$2,040) each way × 2 people × 2 directions = NT$8,160 in domestic legs. Total KHH-CJU-SEL round-trip including domestic: NT$5,000 + NT$8,160 = NT$13,160 per person. Direct KHH-ICN round-trip: NT$8,500 all-in. If Seoul was the primary destination: KHH-ICN was NT$4,660 cheaper than the ‘deal’ KHH-CJU route. The Kaohsiung-Jeju promo is genuinely cheap if Jeju is your sole or primary Korea destination — not if you’re planning to add Seoul.

Tieway Airlines Kaohsiung-Jeju Island Launch in April, Round-trip Tickets at 5K with Amazing Discounts!

What I got wrong about luggage fees: I booked a budget carrier at what looked like a NT$3,900 savings over the full-service airline. I hadn’t checked luggage fees. The route required a checked bag. Budget carrier checked bag fee: NT$2,100 each way. NT$4,200 in fees versus the full-service airline’s included baggage. I ended up paying NT$300 more than the “expensive” option for a less comfortable flight.

Rational Travel recently spotted news about Tieway Airlines’ new Kaohsiung-Jeju Island route, and it’s absolutely eye-catching! This route was teased on their website as early as March 5th at midnight, but a bunch of people stayed up late without seeing direct flight prices – even Rational Travel was confused. The official announcement didn’t come until afternoon, and they initially quoted 8,000 pre-tax for one-way, 18K round-trip, which seemed expensive enough to question whether this was a budget airline or five-star service. However, promotional prices finally dropped in the evening – April launches with 1,600 pre-tax one-way, 6,535 round-trip with tax, and includes 15kg checked luggage. Rational Travel did the math and it’s really good value, plus this price absolutely crushes other airlines.

The flight times are super convenient too. Starting April 22, flying four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Departure from Kaohsiung at 13:40 (TW690), arriving Jeju at 17:05; return flight (TW689) departs 11:05, arriving Kaohsiung at 12:40. Flight time is about 2.5 hours using a 737-800 aircraft – small, efficient, and fuel-saving. The promotion runs until March 31st, with travel dates from April 22 to October 25, covering the peak summer season – perfect for friends wanting to fly to Jeju to eat seafood and enjoy ocean views. The only thing is ticket quantities seem to be released gradually, so if you want cheap tickets, you’ll need to keep monitoring the official website or risk watching others fly instead.

Even better, Tieway has additional promotions. You can use discount vouchers on Taiwan-South Korea routes (300 one-way, 800 round-trip, excluding Tomb Sweeping Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Double Tenth Day), plus combine with LINE Pay for 10% cashback on amounts over 5,000 (capped at 900 points). Stacking these discounts, round-trip becomes 5,735 after the 800 deduction, plus 500 points cashback, equaling an actual cost of 5,235 – an absolutely killer price. The inaugural route shows genuine sincerity; it just comes down to how many tickets they release!

I should be upfront: I don’t have perfect information about how this plays out in every scenario. There are situations where the opposite of my recommendation is the right call. Read the exceptions, not just the headline advice.

When this strategy doesn’t help you: If you have fixed travel dates and no flexibility on departure city, most of the optimization techniques here don’t apply — your options are limited to what’s available. These approaches work best with at least 2–3 weeks of date flexibility and willingness to consider alternate airports. For fixed itineraries, the main tool you have is booking early.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t book Kaohsiung-Jeju promotional flights for a Jeju + Seoul combined itinerary without calculating the additional domestic Korea leg cost against direct Kaohsiung-Incheon alternatives

1. Travelers booking Kaohsiung-Jeju promotional fares for a combined Jeju+Seoul itinerary without adding Jeju-Seoul domestic flight cost to the total budget comparison. Jeju-Seoul domestic air costs KRW 80,000-120,000 one-way per person (NT$1,900-2,900). For a Jeju+Seoul trip, the domestic leg adds NT$4,000-6,000/person round-trip — often making the direct KHH-ICN alternative cheaper overall. Better fit: calculate full itinerary cost before deciding between KHH-CJU and KHH-ICN entry points for combined Jeju+Seoul trips.

2. Travelers planning daily flexibility on Jeju Island expecting the KHH-CJU route to operate daily for flexible return date options. Kaohsiung-Jeju direct routes typically operate 2-3 times weekly, not daily — this means fixed departure days and limited flexibility to extend or shorten Jeju stay. Better fit: verify the KHH-CJU operating days before booking if your Jeju stay length has any flexibility; operating days often mean Tue/Thu/Sat or similar non-daily schedules.

3. Travelers expecting Jeju Island to offer the same visa-free, no-registration entry experience as mainland Korea for Taiwan passport holders. Jeju Island has the same visa-free conditions as mainland Korea for Taiwan passport holders — no separate Jeju permit required. However: travelers with complex travel history (certain countries on their passport) should verify their mainland Korea visa-free eligibility specifically, as Jeju’s permit-free history differs from mainland Korea entry rules.
