2026 Air Macau ITF promotional reality: discount depth is typically 10-15% off standard fares — more modest than CI/EVA (15-25%) and Starlux (20-30%) at ITF events. The Taichung-Macau (RMQ-MFM) route operates on A320 (1-class economy only, no business). For Taiwan passport holders planning mainland China travel via MFM: Air Macau connections require valid China visa — MFM transit to mainland is not visa-free for Taiwan citizens (unlike HK transit under 7 days). Verify before booking a ‘MFM+Macau’ package as a China gateway.
📍 Booked Air Macau RMQ-MFM ITF expecting to transit to Guangzhou without China visa (Mar 2026) Saw Air Macau ITF Taichung-Macau deal and planned to day-trip into Guangzhou from MFM. Did not realize Taiwan passport holders need a valid China visa for Macau-mainland land crossing. Arrived MFM, turned away at Gongbei border crossing. Stayed in Macau only (original plan was Macau + Guangzhou). Net: hotel change cost NT$1,200 + missed Guangzhou activities. Always verify Taiwan passport + mainland China visa rules before building a ‘via MFM to mainland’ itinerary.

While it might not be getting much attention, Air Macau has also jumped into the ITF promotional battle, and today announced the launch of the Taichung-Macau route starting November 1st! Four flights per week, with highly competitive pricing that makes it the cheapest traditional carrier option on the Taiwan-Macau route right now! 🔥

What I got wrong about luggage fees: I booked a budget carrier at what looked like a NT$3,900 savings over the full-service airline. I hadn’t checked luggage fees. The route required a checked bag. Budget carrier checked bag fee: NT$2,100 each way. NT$4,200 in fees versus the full-service airline’s included baggage. I ended up paying NT$300 more than the “expensive” option for a less comfortable flight.
Price Highlights:
Taipei/Kaohsiung-Macau: NT$5,192
Taichung-Macau: NT$5,295
Baggage: Includes 30KG checked luggage
This price might even be cheaper through OTA platforms, perfect for buddies looking to fly to Macau on a budget! However, if you care more about airline service quality and the price difference with Starlux or EVA is minimal, I’d still recommend Starlux or EVA instead—you get better service and more flight options 😉.

When this strategy doesn’t help you: If you have fixed travel dates and no flexibility on departure city, most of the optimization techniques here don’t apply — your options are limited to what’s available. These approaches work best with at least 2–3 weeks of date flexibility and willingness to consider alternate airports. For fixed itineraries, the main tool you have is booking early.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t assume Air Macau ITF offers the same discount depth as major carrier ITF deals
1. Travelers comparing Air Macau ITF vs CI/EVA ITF value. Air Macau ITF = 10-15% off vs CI/EVA 15-25% off. Better fit: use Air Macau RMQ-MFM for Macau-only trips (genuine convenience from Taichung); skip for pure price competition against TPE-MFM options.
2. Travelers planning Macau as mainland China transit hub. Taiwan passport requires China visa for MFM-mainland crossing. Better fit: research Taiwan passport mainland China visa requirements separately from Macau travel — they are different visa systems.
3. Travelers expecting business class options on RMQ-MFM. Air Macau Taichung-Macau operates A320 economy only. Better fit: TPE-MFM has occasional Air Macau business class availability; RMQ route is economy-only.
