The fix isn’t “remember Korean Airlines’ rule”; it’s “always carry power banks in your personal-item bag, never in overhead bins or checked, on any airline.”
The power bank mistake I made on a 2024 Asia trip: I’d packed my 20,000mAh power bank in my checked baggage to save weight in carry-on for an EVA flight to Tokyo. At KIX security on the return, EVA’s outbound staff had pulled it from my checked bag and placed it loose in my luggage with a “carry-on only” note. I didn’t notice until 6 hours later when I needed it for my Tokyo Disneyland day. Lost charging time + the inconvenience of locating airport-priced replacement (NT$1,200 for a JapanLab brand). The fix the framework here teaches: power banks (and similar lithium-ion devices) ALWAYS go in personal-item bag (the small one under the seat), never in checked, never in overhead bins. Today I want to remind everyone traveling on the 4 major Korean airlines, these new regulations are really strict with wide-ranging impact. Starting from 2/7, passengers flying Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Busan Air, and Eastar Air cannot place power banks in the overhead bins and must carry them in hand luggage! This means if you’re used to tossing your power bank into your bag and putting it up there, you’ll need to reorganize your luggage before boarding!

⚠️ Who shouldn’t ignore the Korean Airlines power bank rule
1. Travelers flying multiple Korean carriers (KAL / Asiana / Korean LCCs). The rule applies across Korean carrier ecosystem, including code-share flights operated by Korean Air on partner airline tickets. Don’t assume “I’m flying United via Tokyo” exempts you from the Korean leg’s rule.
2. Travelers carrying ≥3 lithium-ion devices (laptops, multiple power banks, electronic gadgets). The rule limits power banks specifically; multiple high-capacity devices in checked may trigger separate aviation safety inspections. Better fit: carry all lithium devices in carry-on / personal item; check only standard clothing / toiletries.
3. Travelers without spare USB-C cables. The rule forces in-cabin power bank usage; if your charging cable is in checked baggage, you can’t use the power bank during flight. Better fit: pack 2 spare USB-C cables in personal item alongside your power bank.
