EVA agent: ‘EVA is Star Alliance — your SkyTeam card doesn’t apply.’ No priority check-in, no lounge access, economy boarding. The $299 was not wasted (SkyTeam benefits valid on CI/Korean Air), but I specifically wanted EVA benefits. Had I researched alliances: SkyTeam ≠ Star Alliance; EVA = Star Alliance; CI = SkyTeam. 1. Travelers wanting EVA/ANA/JAL lounge and priority access who consider KQ $299 status. EVA = Star Alliance; KQ = SkyTeam. These are separate alliance networks. Better fit: for EVA benefits, target EVA’s own Infinity MileageLands status or Star Alliance Gold via partner carrier status match.
2. Travelers expecting purchased status to be accepted by all carriers as equivalent to earned status. Some carriers scrutinize purchased status origin; status match requests based on KQ $299 tier may be declined. Better fit: verify the specific airline’s status match policy before applying — some carriers specifically exclude purchased-tier status from match eligibility.
3. Travelers using SkyTeam Elite Plus primarily for China Airlines CI benefits. CI is SkyTeam — KQ Elite Plus = CI priority check-in, boarding, lounge access.
