Honest caveat: a “complete flight ticket guide” can never be truly comprehensive — pricing models, fare classes, and reverse-search flow patterns shift quarterly across the 30+ airlines that fly out of Taiwan. The frameworks in this guide (booking-window timing, multi-airport comparison, all-in-cost math, reverse-search logic) are durable for 2026; the specific NT$ benchmarks within each framework will need quarterly recalibration. Use this as the master reference for the principles; verify the live numbers against Trip.com / Skyscanner / individual airline sites before any actual booking.
The flight-booking mistake that defined how I built this guide: Early in my flight-research years, I treated “watch a fare for 2-3 weeks before booking” as standard advice. The reality on most Taiwan-Asia routes: the upside of waiting (saving NT$500-1,200) is consistently smaller than the downside of price escalation (often NT$2,000-5,000 within the same window). I tracked 47 of my own bookings over 2024 to confirm this — 32 of them showed the price went UP from my watch-list low, only 11 went down. The asymmetry favors action when a fare hits your historical baseline. The structural fix I now apply: when a fare hits within 10% of historical 90-day floor, I book within 48 hours; the principles in this guide all stem from this asymmetry observation.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t follow the strategies in this guide
1. Travelers with completely fixed dates (no flexibility window). The booking-window timing, reverse search, and multi-airport comparison logic all rely on at least 5-7 days of date flexibility. If your trip is locked (work conference, family event), most optimization techniques don’t apply — focus only on multi-airport (Songshan vs Taoyuan) and credit card miles redemption.
2. Last-minute travelers (under 14 days before departure). Most of the strategies here assume 4-12 weeks of booking lead time. Within 14 days, fares are at ceiling and the techniques save 5-10% rather than 25-40%. Better fit: pivot dates if possible, or accept the premium and skip the optimization.
3. Travelers prioritizing comfort over fare savings (long-haul travelers, families with kids, business travelers). The cheapest-fare framework optimizes for cost, not for sleep quality on a 12-hour flight or family-of-4 contiguous seating. If your trip success depends on those factors, the LCC routing and reverse-search techniques in this guide may save you 30% but cost you the trip you actually wanted. Pick optimization criteria first; choose strategies that match.
