Honest caveat: Korean Air Taipei-Busan round-trip at NT$8,200 was a 2024 launch promo era price; by 2026 the same route on Korean Air typically runs NT$12,000-16,000 round-trip. The ‘super cheap’ framing is historical reference; current pricing has stabilized 50-80% above launch promo. The strategic insight (Korean Air’s Taipei-Busan direct is genuinely competitive, vs Tigerair / Eastar) holds.
The Korean Air Taipei-Busan booking mistake I made: I’d booked Korean Air Taipei-Busan at NT$8,800 launch promo for an October 2024 weekend. What I missed: Korean Air Taipei-Busan only flies 4 times/week (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun), and my Friday departure from Taiwan + Sunday return to Taiwan didn’t fit. I had to either accept Saturday departure (1 day shorter trip) or rebook to Tigerair daily service at NT$11,200. Net: I’d saved cash but couldn’t use the cash advantage. The fix: launch-promo fares often have schedule constraints not visible until the booking page; verify route frequency BEFORE clicking book.
Quick note: some links here are affiliate links — I get a small cut if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. I’ve also included options with no commission where they’re genuinely useful. Everything’s based on my own research.

Korean Air Taipei-Busan Summer Round Trip $8,200 – Budget Grab from May to September

Rational Travel recently discovered an incredibly cheap flight deal: Korean Air Taipei-Busan round trip for only $8,200, tax-inclusive, covering the summer period from May to September 2025. It’s shocking to see a full-service airline compress prices to this level. The budget tickets are concentrated in May-September, with availability even during the peak summer months of July-August. Although the return flight time is early, you might need to leave Busan a bit earlier, but at $8,200 to fly Korean Air—a five-star airline—including 20kg baggage and in-flight meals, the value for money is absolutely explosive. Compared to budget airlines’ summer fares that easily exceed $10,000, this price is basically the floor for full-service carriers.
After Korean Air’s acquisition of Asiana Airlines, the company is undergoing brand remodeling with a minimalist new logo incorporating the Taegeuk flag and propeller elements. The website and uniforms have been refreshed, looking more contemporary. Flights are operated with A330 or 737-900 aircraft. The Taipei-Busan route takes approximately 2 hours, with comfortable conditions for short-haul travel. Rational Travel thinks this ticket is perfect for budget-conscious travelers who don’t want to sacrifice quality. Head to Busan this summer for fresh seafood and Haeundae Beach—at $8,200, it’s absolutely worth it!

⚠️ Who shouldn’t book Korean Air Taipei-Busan direct
1. Travelers locked to Friday-Sunday weekend trips. Korean Air’s 4-day-a-week schedule excludes Friday outbound options. Better fit: Tigerair daily service for weekend trips.
2. Multi-city Korea trips (Seoul + Busan). If your trip combines Seoul and Busan, the Taipei-Seoul-KTX-Busan routing is operationally simpler than a Taipei-Busan direct + KTX-Seoul-domestic-flight setup.
3. Travelers with 25kg+ checked baggage. Korean Air’s 23kg economy is generous; Tigerair’s similar. Once you exceed 23kg, both add similar incremental fees. The ‘cheap’ Korean Air advantage shrinks at higher baggage tiers.
