Great news for travelers flying between Taipei and Europe: Emirates Airlines has upgraded its Taipei-Dubai (TPE-DXB) route to double daily service starting August 2025, adding a new Boeing 777 to complement the existing Airbus A380 that has long been the flagship of this route. This means more scheduling flexibility, more fare options, and more chances to snag a deal on one of Asia’s most popular Europe-connection routes.
Rational Travel breaks down everything you need to know — from the new flight numbers and times, to how the A380 and B777 compare, to why this upgrade (combined with increased competition from Etihad) is a huge win for travelers looking to connect to Europe.
New Flight Schedule: EK386 & EK387 (B777)
Starting August 2025, Emirates operates two daily flights in each direction on the Taipei–Dubai route:
| Flight | Route | Aircraft | Departure | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EK367 | Taipei (TPE) → Dubai (DXB) | A380 | 23:50 | Original flight, unchanged |
| EK387 (NEW) | Taipei (TPE) → Dubai (DXB) | B777 | 00:30 | New from August 2025 |
| EK366 | Dubai (DXB) → Taipei (TPE) | A380 | 03:45 | Original flight, unchanged |
| EK386 (NEW) | Dubai (DXB) → Taipei (TPE) | B777 | 08:40 | New from August 2025, arrives Taipei evening |
The flight time is approximately 8.5 hours in both directions. Both departure times from Taipei are late-night, which is ideal for Taiwanese travelers who prefer overnight flights — sleep through most of the journey and arrive refreshed in Dubai for an onward connection to Europe.

The A380 is Emirates’ signature aircraft and the one that built the airline’s premium reputation. The Taipei route configuration typically features:
- Economy: ~427–489 seats with generous legroom and the award-winning ICE entertainment system (thousands of movies, TV shows, music)
- Business Class: ~76 fully flat seats with direct aisle access
- First Class: ~14 private suites
- Onboard bar: The famous A380 Onboard Lounge — exclusive to business and first class passengers, but a genuine luxury touch
- Wi-Fi: Available for purchase throughout the cabin
The A380 is the obvious choice if you value space, the full entertainment experience, or you’re flying business/first class. Economy seats on this aircraft are among the most comfortable in the sky for a non-premium cabin.
Emirates B777 (EK386/EK387)
The newly added B777 configuration is expected to feature:
- Economy: ~300 seats
- Business Class: ~42 lie-flat seats
- First Class: ~8 seats
- Full ICE entertainment system and in-seat power
- Same Emirates meal service and cabin crew standards
The B777 won’t match the A380’s “wow factor,” but it’s a perfectly comfortable long-haul aircraft and the added capacity creates more fare options — particularly relevant when searching for promotional economy tickets. The 08:40 return departure from Dubai is also a strategic advantage: it gives you a full morning in Dubai before heading back, perfect for a brief city visit or extra time at the airport’s duty-free.
Taipei–Dubai–Europe: The Connection Advantage
The Taipei–Dubai route’s primary appeal for most Taiwanese travelers isn’t Dubai itself — it’s the convenient Europe connection via Emirates’ Dubai hub (DXB), one of the world’s busiest airports.
Emirates flies nonstop from Dubai to virtually every major European city, including:
- Paris (CDG) — approximately 7 hours from Dubai
- London (LHR) — approximately 7 hours from Dubai
- Rome (FCO) — approximately 6 hours from Dubai
- Frankfurt (FRA) — approximately 6.5 hours from Dubai
- Amsterdam (AMS) — approximately 7 hours from Dubai
Total travel time from Taipei to Europe: approximately 15–20 hours depending on connection time. Dubai International Airport’s layover experience is excellent — Terminal 3 (Emirates’ dedicated terminal) has extensive lounges, restaurants, duty-free shopping, and even spa facilities for longer layovers. A 4+ hour connection in Dubai is genuinely enjoyable rather than the typical airport ordeal.
What About Pricing?
Based on current 2025 market pricing:
- Economy round-trip (Taipei–Europe via Dubai): approximately NTD 25,000–40,000 including taxes
- Economy round-trip (Taipei–Dubai only): approximately NTD 18,000–25,000
- Business class (Taipei–Europe): NTD 80,000–120,000+ during normal periods; promotional sales can drop significantly
The added B777 capacity increases the number of economy seats on this route, which typically translates to more promotional fare availability — particularly for off-peak travel periods. Set price alerts or check regularly during Emirates’ annual sale periods.
Emirates vs Etihad: The Competition Heats Up
Emirates’ capacity increase isn’t happening in a vacuum. Etihad Airways — the other UAE carrier — entered the Taipei market with its B787-9 service from Taipei to Abu Dhabi (AUH) starting September 2025. The B787 configuration typically features ~240 economy seats, and Etihad has positioned itself aggressively on price, with economy fares sometimes dropping to NTD 22,000–25,000 for Europe connections.
For travelers, this competition is excellent news. Both carriers offer strong Europe connections through their respective UAE hubs (Dubai vs Abu Dhabi), and pricing competition between them will likely keep fares competitive throughout 2025–2026. If you’re flexible on airline preference, monitoring both Emirates and Etihad simultaneously when booking gives you the best chance of finding promotional fares.

Is a Dubai Stopover Worth It?
With the new EK386 returning from Dubai at 08:40, travelers who book the return on the original EK366 (03:45 departure) could — in theory — spend a full day or two in Dubai before flying home. Emirates’ stopover program allows passengers to add a Dubai stop to long-haul itineraries, often at a modest extra cost.
Dubai highlights for a quick 24–48 hour stopover:
- Burj Khalifa: The world’s tallest building, observation decks at levels 124 and 148
- Dubai Mall: One of the world’s largest shopping centers, with an indoor ice rink and massive aquarium
- Dubai Creek & Old Souk: The historic spice and gold markets in the traditional Deira district
- Palm Jumeirah: The iconic palm-shaped island with beach clubs and luxury hotels
- Dubai Food Scene: World-class dining from Arabic mezze to Michelin-starred restaurants
