If you’re planning a business trip to Hsinchu or bringing kids out to play, I suggest you pause your card-swiping and check out this week’s member e-newsletter “Hsinchu Accommodation Red Flags & Hidden High CP Value Hotel Recommendations“, which might save you thousands and spare you a headache. Speaking of which, after I finished writing an in-depth review of Zhubei boutique hotels last time, I got a private message from the owner asking me to hurry up and write a balanced report. But as I’ve said, Rational Travel only tells the truth. My data looks good because readers know I never recommend recklessly.
This article is written for those friends who have “standards for hygiene and don’t want to pay for grief.” Many people think a 4-star rating means at least basic standards, but if you’re like me and the first thing you do when entering a room is squat down to inspect the bathroom corners and stick your hand into the sofa crevices to check, then you absolutely must read this. Don’t forget, the table at the end of the article summarizes the harsh reality of this hotel. If you want to receive more of these “brutally honest lists because nobody’s paying us,” remember to subscribe to my newsletter.
| Name | Operating/Applicable Information | Price Range | Booking Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Ho Hotel Hsinchu | No. 16, University Road, East District, Hsinchu | NT$ 3,200 – 5,500 | Not provided. This 4-star hotel really doesn’t deserve that rating anymore. I’m truly sorry. |

Rational Travel’s Hands-On Experience:
Don’t get fooled by those polished photos on the official website.
When I actually pushed open the room door and walked in, what shocked me most wasn’t some fashionable decor, but that sense of “time hasn’t spared this place” hitting me in the face. You think staying at a 4-star hotel is an indulgence? But when you plop yourself down on the sofa and casually reach into the crevice between the cushion and armrest, pulling out dust, lint, and food crumbs left by previous guests (could be the last three guests for all we know), that instant wave of goosebumps hitting your entire body really jolts you awake. What’s most unbearable is the bathroom—those years-old black mold embedded in the tile grout isn’t something you can’t wash away; it’s just that nobody’s bothered to scrub it.
When I accidentally grazed a moldy tile seam with my toe while showering, only one word crossed my mind: tragic.
Supposedly 4-Star Amenities, But Can’t Even Maintain Basic Hygiene
Honestly, this hotel’s location is unbeatable—right next to the interchange, walking distance to National Tsing Hua University and National Chiao Tung University, which is why they can charge these prices. But a hotel’s core function is “sleeping” and “showering,” and if you can’t do those two things well, no amount of location will help. It’s just wasted money.
The “Ecosystem” in the Bathroom and the Flash Flood
Push open the bathroom door, and you might think you’ve wandered into some biology lab. Black rings around the sink edges, brown patches at the bathtub corners, speckled stains on the shower enclosure caulk—mold is greeting you from every angle. This isn’t something that happens in a day or two; this is the “harvest” cultivated over years in a humid environment. It’s basically an ecosystem the hotel has been breeding on purpose.
The most ridiculous part is the shower enclosure design—those glass door gaps are wide enough to slip a magazine through. When you push the door open after showering, the supposedly “wet and dry separated” floor becomes a miniature splash zone, with water pooling deep enough to nearly submerge your ankles. If you’re not careful, you’ll absolutely slip on that wet, moldy tile. If you ask me about water pressure? Well, the water pressure is actually decent, hits your back pretty firmly, but when you look down and see the water flowing over those moldy tile grout lines, you just want to slip your flip-flops on and escape this nightmare XD.

Many guests report that upon checking in at 3 PM sharp, instead of finding a spotless room, they see a cleaning process that seems to have been fast-forwarded. The dust and trash under the sofa are so abundant it looks like an old furniture shop storage room that hasn’t been touched in ages—you could write your name in the dust layer with your finger. Even when you complain to the front desk and ask for a room change, the “surprise” persists. This shows it’s not just one lazy housekeeper’s problem; it’s an entire hotel management process and cleaning standard that’s completely broken down.
Sound Insulation: Like Camping on the Roadside
If you’re a light sleeper, remember to pack the strongest earplugs you can find. The soundproofing here is basically “zero physical protection.” When the neighbor slams their door, that “boom” vibrates straight to your headboard and jolts you awake. Conversations in the hallway sound like someone whispering right in your ear. If you happen to encounter kids who don’t sleep at night, running and screaming in the hallways, you’ll genuinely want to rush out and teach them some manners. This stay experience barely deserves a 2-star rating honestly.

Is The Ho Hotel Hsinchu really that bad?
Recent online reviews are very polarized. Many people complain about hygiene issues, particularly the moldy bathrooms and dirty sofas which are being criticized the most. I’d recommend checking the latest reviews before booking and not just relying on the hotel’s hand-picked positive ones.
Does the hotel provide parking?
Yes, the hotel has an underground parking garage, which is convenient for drivers. This part is actually pretty solid—no complaints here.
How’s the breakfast?
There’s a decent variety of breakfast options, but the quality is mediocre. It’s just your standard mix of Taiwanese and Western self-service buffet. It’ll fill your stomach, but don’t expect any surprises.
Is it close to Hsinchu Science Park?
Very close—right near the park entrance. It’s just a few minutes’ drive away. This is honestly the hotel’s biggest selling point for charging these prices.
Is the room soundproofing really that bad?
Yes, many guests report that hallway footsteps and neighboring room sounds are very audible. Light sleepers should definitely avoid this place, or bring quality earplugs.
Is there really mold in the bathroom?
Based on real guest reports from 2025, the bathroom mold issue is indeed serious, mainly concentrated in tile grout lines and silicone sealant joints. It’s definitely off-putting.
Does the shower enclosure leak?
The shower door gaps are designed quite large, so the bathroom floor typically gets completely soaked after showering. The “wet and dry
