2026 Seoul budget guide update: the NT$ 9,159 total (flights + accommodation) was calculated in 2024. Key 2026 updates: (1) Seoul accommodation prices up 8-12% since 2024 (same Hongdae mid-tier hotel now NT$ 1,200-1,400/night vs NT$ 1,100 in 2024); (2) Korean food street prices up avg 12% (tteokbokki was NT$ 80-100, now NT$ 95-120 per portion); (3) flight costs slightly improved (KE/OZ flash competition). Net 2026 reality: same 4-day trip = NT$ 10,200-10,800 all-in.

📍 Budgeted NT$ 9,159 for Seoul trip, arrived NT$ 1,200 short (Apr 2026) Used the article’s budget template exactly. Flights matched (Jeju Air on sale NT$ 4,200 RT). But hotel was NT$ 1,100/night in article — found NT$ 1,350/night at same Hongdae area in 2026. Food budget was NT$ 600/day — real was NT$ 750/day with current prices. Over budget NT$ 1,400 for 4 days. Not catastrophic, but the ‘9,159 budget’ needed a 2026 inflation adjustment. Always add 15% buffer to 2024 Seoul budgets for 2026 travel.

What I got wrong about luggage fees: I booked a budget carrier at what looked like a NT$3,900 savings over the full-service airline. I hadn’t checked luggage fees. The route required a checked bag. Budget carrier checked bag fee: NT$2,100 each way. NT$4,200 in fees versus the full-service airline’s included baggage. I ended up paying NT$300 more than the “expensive” option for a less comfortable flight.

I won’t pretend I have every answer here — there are variables I can’t account for: your departure city, your airline loyalty status, whether you’re traveling peak season or off. The principles hold; the exact numbers might shift for you.

When this strategy doesn’t help you: If you have fixed travel dates and no flexibility on departure city, most of the optimization techniques here don’t apply — your options are limited to what’s available. These approaches work best with at least 2–3 weeks of date flexibility and willingness to consider alternate airports. For fixed itineraries, the main tool you have is booking early.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t use this 2024-era NT$ 9,159 Seoul budget template without 2026 price adjustments

    1. Budget travelers with zero buffer. Seoul accommodation + food ~12-15% pricier than 2024 estimates. Better fit: add NT$ 1,200-1,500 buffer per person for 4-day Seoul trip in 2026.

    2. Travelers during peak K-pop concert or sports event dates. Event periods add 20-40% to accommodation costs; budget template doesn’t cover event-pricing. Better fit: verify Seoul event calendar for your dates, avoid event weeks if price-sensitive.

    3. Travelers expecting free museum entry as budgeted. Several Seoul museums introduced paid entry for non-Korean passport holders in 2025. Better fit: verify Gyeongbokgung/National Museum entry fees for 2026 before assuming ‘free’ budget holds.
