Honest caveat: launch promotional fares like NT$5,235 don’t last. T’way Air typically holds intro pricing for 2-4 months before adjusting upward as load factors stabilize — historical comparable launches (Tigerair KHH-Okinawa, Starlux KHH-Tokyo) all saw 25-40% fare increases after the promo window. If you’re reading this more than ~90 days after April 2025, treat NT$5,235 as the floor reference, not the current rate. Also worth flagging: 4 flights per week means schedule disruption (weather, mechanical, crew) hits harder — there’s no same-day rebooking flexibility.

Southern Taiwan travelers have always had to connect through Taipei for Jeju Island — until T’way Air launched a direct Kaohsiung route in April 2025. The opening promotional fare: NT$5,235 round trip all-in with 15KG checked baggage, after stacking available discounts. Four flights per week, 2.5-hour flying time. Here’s the complete breakdown.

T’way Air’s new Kaohsiung (KHH) → Jeju (CJU) route launched April 22, 2025, running four times weekly (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday). Aircraft: Boeing 737-800.

Schedule: Outbound TW690 departs Kaohsiung at 13:40, arrives Jeju 17:05. Return TW689 departs Jeju at 11:05, arrives Kaohsiung 12:40. Midday timing — no early-morning scrambles, no late-night arrivals.

Pricing: Base promotional one-way (pre-tax) at NT$1,600. Round trip all-in: NT$6,535 with 15KG baggage included. With T’way’s launch discount voucher (NT$800 off round trips) and LINE Pay cashback (10% up to 900 points on purchases over NT$5,000), the final price after stacking: approximately NT$5,235 round trip. Travel window: April 22 through October 25, covering the full summer season.

Promotional pricing ran through March 31. Availability was released gradually — checking the airline’s website regularly was the best approach to catching open seats.

What this route would have saved me on my last Jeju trip: Before this direct launched, I flew KHH→TPE→CJU on a same-day connecting itinerary in early 2024. The Kaohsiung-Taipei domestic leg cost NT$2,400, the Taipei-Jeju international leg NT$6,800, and I spent 4.5 hours on the ground at TPE because the only connection that day had a long layover. Total: NT$9,200 + a wasted half-day. The new T’way direct at NT$5,235 saves NT$3,965 in cash and roughly 5 hours of travel time per round trip. The economics only work if you can fly Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun (T’way’s 4-day-a-week schedule); if your dates are locked to Tue/Thu/Sat, you’re back to the connect-through-Taipei math.

At NT$5,235 all-in with 15KG baggage included, yes — this deal made sense. The original announcement priced round trips at NT$18,000, which made people question whether this was a budget airline. Then the promotional fares dropped, and the math shifted completely. The midday schedule is genuinely convenient — no alarm-clock departures, no late arrivals. T’way Air on 737-800 doesn’t offer luxury, but 15KG baggage covers Jeju’s main souvenir categories.

Peak summer availability through October 25 makes this practical for family trips. The beach, crater hike, and black pork barbecue are all there — you just need to catch the fare window.

Jeju Island Food and Travel Highlights

Jeju is a 2.5-hour flight from Kaohsiung. Here’s what makes the trip worth the fare:

  • Jeju black pork barbecue: Sizzling at the table, dipped in salt — a regional specialty that earns every food travel article mentioning it. Start at Dongmun Market near the airport.
  • Sea urchin soup or fresh sashimi: Jeju’s coastal seafood is serious. Worth at least one sit-down meal.
  • Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak): UNESCO-listed volcanic crater with panoramic ocean views. The hike is short; the view is long.
  • Udo Island: Bike the perimeter, eat the peanut ice cream, take the photos.
  • May–June rapeseed flower season: Yellow fields against blue ocean — peak visual impact, uncrowded by summer standards.

Accommodation: Downtown Jeju hotels run TWD 2,000–3,000/night. Useful range for a 3–4 night trip without blowing the flight savings.

⚠️ Who shouldn’t book this T’way KHH-CJU launch fare

1. Travelers with locked Tue/Thu/Sat dates. T’way operates 4 flights/week (Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun based on the launch schedule — verify before booking). If your trip dates can’t flex, you’re forced back to KHH→TPE→CJU connecting itineraries, where the cost-time math still favors the indirect route over a multi-day stay in Taipei. Better fit: Korean Air or Asiana via TPE.

2. Families with 25kg+ checked baggage needs. The promo includes 15KG checked. Adding 10kg costs roughly NT$1,200 each way (NT$2,400 round trip per bag) — at that point a full-service carrier with 23-30kg included becomes price-competitive on the second checked bag. Run the actual baggage math before assuming this is the cheapest route.

3. Travelers who genuinely value LCC vs. full-service service differences. T’way is a budget carrier — no included meal beyond water, narrower 30-inch pitch, paid seat selection. For a 2.5-hour daytime flight that’s usually fine, but if you’ve found you can’t sleep on LCCs and a connecting Korean Air flight in flat-bed business is reasonable on miles, the calculus changes. Don’t assume “cheapest route” equals “best route” without factoring how you actually travel.

The 15KG Baggage Plan

Jeju’s convenience stores and duty-free areas sell dried seafood, Jeju tangerine chocolates, and seaweed snacks that pack well. 15KG is enough if you’re strategic — pack light on the way out, fill on the way back.
